Your Unique Home - Choosing Your Interior Finishes

Posted by Darlene Freeman on Monday, October 31, 2011,

Don't you find that when you go into other peoples homes, you see things that you wish you would have chosen in your own house? There are so many things that you can choose, and changes that you can make that you may not even think of until you see it somewhere else.

Most people make the obvious changes when they buy a new home, like choosing granite counter tops as an upgrade in place of arborite. Or choosing hardwood floors instead of carpet, potlights instead of standard fixtures, but the...

Easing Anxiety

Posted by Darlene Freeman on Friday, October 21, 2011,

It's a nice feeling when you can ease someones anxiety, and that is what I was able to do today. I received a call from a frantic homeowner who had some items on her 30 Day Form that had not been addressed. The time had passed for her to request a conciliation from Tarion, and she believed that she had no other recourse.

I explained that she did indeed have another chance to report the deficiencies at her year end anniversary. I also explained that she should call her builder to discuss - no...

Preserve Heritage Buildings

Posted by Darlene Freeman on Thursday, October 20, 2011,

It is a shame when a heritage building is knocked down to make way for a new condo. It changes the face of Toronto when something like that happens. We have to preserve heritage buildings so that the generations to follow can see Toronto for what it really is, a beautiful city that dates back well into the 1800′s.

If all of the old buildings are allowed to be distroyed, then Toronto will not be the same place any longer. Is it necessary to turn a city into a sleek modern looking metropolis...

Do You Need A Professional Home Inspector

Posted by Darlene Freeman on Tuesday, October 18, 2011,

When you buy a new house or condo from a builder, some people believe that they should hire a professional home inspector to come with them to do the Pre Delivery Inspection. I am all for a thorough inspection, however; I don't believe you need to spend $300.00 or more, to have a professional inspector come in to inspect a brand new build.

A professional inspector is a necessity when you buy a resale home. They know exactly what to look for, and can find problems that can save us time, money...

Did You Get A Better Deal Than Me??

Posted by Darlene Freeman on Monday, October 17, 2011,

When people buy a new house or condo, I find it very interesting how purchasers always want to look inside other peoples homes to find out what they paid just to make sure that nobody recieved a better deal, or god forbid, got anything for free.  Just to let you know, it won't get you anywhere comparing with your neighbour.  All you are going to feel is aggravated if you truly beleive they did better than you did with your builder.

Everybodys situation is different, and nobody is ever going to...

Grand Openings

Posted by Darlene Freeman on Sunday, October 16, 2011,
I love when builders have grand openings.  It gives me an opportunity to meet the people standing in line waiting for the sales office to open.  I have a ready made audience.  I can talk to them about my services, explain how important it is to be well informed about the processes that takes place after they purchase their new home.  I can hand out my flyers and business cards, and I can answer questions.

Some might ask if my being at openings causes a conflict of interest.  Here I am talking ...

Your Builder, Your Friend

Posted by Darlene Freeman on Friday, October 14, 2011,

When you purchase a house or condo from a builder, not only is your new home being built, but a relationship is being built between you and your builder. It's like with any friend that you have, if they are good friends you will do anything for them.

Well it is really the same concept with your builder.  If you are easy to get along with, cooperative, respectful, your builder will want to keep you as happy as they can.  However; if you are belligerent, rude, uncooperative your builder will o...
